  Crutches are available in various forms - metal, wood, and plastic. Wood ones are often preferred as they look better and also because they are very comfortable to use. Plastic ones tend to be quite sturdy but are heavy and not as comfortable to sit on. Of course, metal crutches have the advantage of durability as well as being relatively easy to carry and put on and off. People with walking disabilities typically require axillary crutches.
